About bank

The National Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Foreign Economic Activity was established under the Decree of the first President of Uzbekistan, I. Karimov in September 1991.

The mission of the Bank states the tasks of creating a financial institution capable of servicing foreign trade operations of domestic companies at the level of international standards, helping to increase the country's export potential, attracting foreign investments and advanced technologies to the Uzbek economy. In fact, today the NBU is a "visiting card" of the country's banking system in international financial markets. Relying on a conservative, balanced policy, the Bank has developed effective mechanisms of management and growth strategy. These allowed the bank to confidently and dynamically develop, having achieved a solid reputation of a professional financial institution, a reliable partner of its clients.

The Bank has become an active engine for market transformation. Optimally combining the functions of the bank project financing, universal commercial, investment and savings banks, the NBU contributes to the successful entry of Uzbekistan into the market economy.

The history of the Bank reflects the dynamics of the country's economic development during the years of independence. Leadership of the NBU in the banking services market, its sustainable development, stable growth of the deposit base, wide attraction of foreign credit lines contributed to the active participation of the NBU in financing investment projects in virtually all sectors of the economy of Uzbekistan.

Over the years of independence, the Bank has financed projects that ensure a deep restructuring of the economy. These are projects of extraction and processing of oil and metals, agricultural engineering, chemistry and production of mineral fertilizers, textile industry, processing of agricultural products, tourism, air and rail transport, communications, small business development and private entrepreneurship, and many other projects that form a new face of the Uzbek economy.

In the conditions of intensive development of the banking sector of the country, the National Bank was the first in Uzbekistan and Central Asia to switch to a new chart of accounts that meets international accounting standards. In 2004, the introduction of the automated banking system Globus, chosen by the Bank during an open international tender was completed. At present, the Globus ABS operates the 6 largest branches of the Bank in Tashkent.

90 branches of the Bank are located in all economically important regions of the country, providing a wide range of services. Also, the Bank has a subsidiary of Asia-Invest Bank in Moscow.

The National Bank carries out a wide range of activities covering almost all areas of domestic and international banking operations and develops modern banking technologies that allow providing banking services at the level of international standards.

In order to use the credit lines provided, the Bank pursues a purposeful policy of expanding and strengthening its relations with international financial organizations, foreign banks and export credit agencies by providing corporate services:

Foreign trade activities

The National Bank serves over 70% of the total foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan, with such mechanisms of export-import crediting as: issuing guarantees for the return of advance payments, execution of contracts; discounting of bills; factoring; direct lending by the bank to Uzbek exporters; project financing; export-import financing with participation of export-credit agencies. Letters of credit are practiced with a deferred payment, converting upon delivery and sale of goods by the client on a consignment basis;

Project financing

Project financing by the National Bank is carried out to finance investment projects that envisage the construction of new ones, modernization or technical re-equipment (including the purchase of equipment, construction and installation processes, etc.), as well as the purchase of a part of raw materials and materials necessary to ensure the normal operation of production facilities and services.

Loans are designed to finance the most important investment projects that ensure structural changes in priority sectors of the economy. Most of the credit lines of such major international financial institutions are attracted without the provision of direct government guarantees on a commercial basis;

Investment banking

NBU as an investment bank is the largest in the country with a developed infrastructure that contributes the development of financial and industrial sectors that actively support economic reforms in Uzbekistan. The Bank's investment portfolio covers shares in textile, food, construction, agribusiness, transport and tourism, and the financial sector. Unconditional priority in the bank's activity is support of small business and private entrepreneurship, financing of its investment projects;

Retail services


Firmly adhering to the policy of expanding services for the population, the Bank is among the undisputed leaders of the financial market of the country for private deposits and raised funds of the population. To date, the Bank provides more than 70 types of retail services. Significant growth of customers is the result of the expansion of electronic services through branches of the National Bank of Uzbekistan, increased public confidence, purposeful work to optimize the terms of deposits, develop and introduce new deposit products, improve the quality of services. The conducted policies allowed the NBU to become the leader on attracting the population on the deposit products;

The Bank assigns the most important place in the development of services for the population to various types of plastic cards. In their implementation, the NBU is an authentic innovator, boldly using the most modern technologies. Expansion of the network of trade and service enterprises that accept payment with NBU cards has given a new push to the growth of their popularity among the population.

Currently, the National Bank issues international Visa Classic and Visa Electron cards for its customers, microprocessor cards for local settlements in the national currency.

Electronic banking

Branches of the Bank are located in all economically important regions of the country and provide customers with the full range of banking services, provide access to modern banking services through the electronic banking system - ATMs, terminals in trade and service outlets;

Bank-client system

The software complex "Bank-Client" is designed for automated interaction between the bank and the client, contributes to the efficiency of cash management in real time. During the 25th Annual Conference and General Assembly of ADFIAP for the product "Remote Electronic Customer Service", for the nomination of "Technology Development", the National Bank was awarded the ADFIAP Award;

The National Bank occupies a leading position in the credit market in Uzbekistan. The Bank provides loans to enterprises and organizations of all industries and all forms of ownership in national and foreign currency. The Bank provides loans for working capital financing, export and import financing, project financing.

Unconditional priority in the Bank's activity is support of small business and private entrepreneurship, financing of its investment projects.

The subsidiary Asia-invest Bank, established to provide a reliable financial structure for export-import operations, the formation of a single banking space between Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation, hold a strong position in the financial market of Russia.

The main efforts of the Bank today are intended on active attraction of foreign investments in priority sectors, implementation of small business and private entrepreneurship projects, expansion of corporate and retail clientele, improving the efficiency of the stock market, development of the program of institutional development and privatization of the NBU.

Development of investment bank in the NBU structure is one of the most important tasks in the broadest sense. The Purpose of the Bank's investments, both in the current and in the long term, is to achieve the optimum commercial interests of the Bank with the priorities of economic development, customer interests, diversification of assets, minimizing risk and improving the efficiency of resources.

The National Bank intends to strengthen its position in the corporate and retail banking markets of Uzbekistan, consistently represent the interests of customers in foreign markets, offering new banking and financial products, promoting mutually beneficial cooperation, economic development and growth of customer welfare.

A high level of profitability of the National Bank combined with the weighted approach, and conservative politics to the ongoing credit and commercial activities, enabling him for the past five years, according to the reliability rating of BIS to hold the leading position among the most reliable banks in the world.

The Bank fulfills all its obligations to foreign partners in full measure and on time. In the entire history of the Bank, there was no case of non-payment of external payments and appeal to the guarantees of the Government. Moreover, assessing the credit history of the NBU, the leading export-import agencies increase credit lines without government guarantees.

Evidence of the high business reputation of the NBU is the growth of the number of foreign banks that accept obligations of the NBU on documentary operations in the account of credit lines.

Currently, the main tasks of National Bank are following:
